Inaugural Alabama Sports and Adventure (ASA) Hall of Fame Ceremony Announced, Bear Grylls to Deliver Keynote as Celebrity Guest

[Dothan, AL]: Alabama Sports and Adventure (ASA) today announced today that the inaugural ceremony for the Alabama Sports and Adventure Hall of Fame will be hosted on Thursday, September 19th, at the Dothan Civic Center.

This event will honor men and women of Alabama who have dedicated their lives to their families and communities, as well as achieving great feats in sports and adventure. The inductees will be recognized as the first class of Hall of Fame inductees at the awards ceremony showcasing each of their extraordinary accomplishments.

To inspire others to strive for their personal best through sports, adventure, and service, celebrity survivalist Bear Grylls will be addressing the attendees.

Star of the television series Running Wild with Bear Grylls and numerous other television episodes and specials, Bear Grylls has become known worldwide as one of the most recognized faces of survival and outdoor adventure. Trained from a young age in martial arts, Grylls went on to spend three years as a soldier in the British Special Forces, as part of 21 SAS Regiment. It was here that he perfected many of the survival skills that his fans all over the world enjoy, as he pits himself against the worst of Mother Nature.

Chairman of the ASA, Mike Schmitz, hopes to bring awareness to the achievements of outstanding Alabamians, while also fostering a love of the outdoors for future generations.

Mike Schmitz, former Mayor of Dothan, outgoing Dothan City Schools Board Chairman, and current Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army, is an avid adventurer.  He has summited Mt. Kilimanjaro, hiked to the first base camp of Mt. Everest, swam from Alcatraz to the Golden Gate Bridge, and bicycled across the United states to raise money for neglected and abused children.Inspired by those he’s met along the way, Mr. Schmitz created the ASA to honor everyday Alabamians that have made a positive impact in their communities by encouraging people to get active.
